Safety events

The kit watches the road, the driver and the truck’s motion. When something risky happens, Roudiy creates an event with the video and the details.

  • ADAS (driver assistance): what the road camera sees, such as following too close.
  • DMS (driver monitoring): what the driver-facing camera sees, such as a phone call or closed eyes.
  • Harsh driving: hard acceleration, braking or turns, and collisions.
  • Speeding: speeding over the posted limit is checked after the trip. Expect these events once the trip ends, not while the truck is driving. These events have no clip from the device.
  • SOS: an emergency event from the kit.

If the same thing repeats within a short time, Roudiy merges it into one event and shows a counter such as ×3, so one long phone call does not flood your inbox.

Weight is how much one event per 1,000 miles lowers the score. A dash means the type does not lower the score.

Event type Category Default severity Weight
Forward collision warning ADAS High 5
Lane departure ADAS Low —
Close following ADAS Medium 9
Pedestrian collision warning ADAS High —
Eyes closed DMS Medium 5
Yawning DMS Medium 5
Fatigue DMS Medium 5
Distraction DMS Medium 5
Head down DMS Medium 5
Phone call DMS High 10
Smoking DMS High 3
Drinking DMS Low —
No driver DMS Low —
Harsh acceleration Harsh Low 1
Harsh braking Harsh Medium 4
Harsh turn Harsh Low 2
Collision Harsh Critical —
Device overspeed Speeding Low —
Speeding (posted) Speeding By mph over 6
SOS Other Critical —

Each event has a severity: Critical, High, Medium or Low. For Speeding (posted) it depends on how far over the limit the truck was: less than 11 mph over is Medium, less than 15 is High, 15 or more is Critical. The default alert rule notifies people about Critical and High events.

Reviewing means deciding what each event is worth. You do it in the Safety Inbox.

  • Needs reviewEvery new event
  • CoachableTalk to the driver
  • RecognizedReviewed, no coaching
  • DismissedIncorrect, Minor or Other
  • CoachedOnly through a coaching session
Undo returns a reviewed event to Needs review. Coachable events become Coached in a coaching session.
  • Coachable: the driver should hear about it. The event goes to the coaching list.
  • Recognized: you reviewed it and it needs no coaching. It leaves the score.
  • Dismissed: not worth keeping in the score. You pick a reason: Incorrect (no real event), Minor (not worth coaching) or Other with a note.
  • Undo sends a reviewed event back to Needs review.

If two people review at once, the second sees This event was updated by another user.

Events in Needs review, Coachable and Coached count; Dismissed and Recognized events don’t. The Safety Inbox says it in one line: Dismissed, recognized and unassigned events don’t affect scores. Unassigned events stay out of driver scores but still count toward the vehicle’s score. A review you make today shows up in the score from the next Monday calculation.

Some events, such as a collision under investigation, should be seen by few people. Marking an event confidential means The event is hidden from users without access to confidential events. It disappears from their lists, counts and reports, but it still counts in the driver’s score.

Video comes from the truck, so it is not always there at once.

  • Fetching video from device (up to 10 min): the clip is on its way. This page checks again every 30 seconds.
  • No video from device: the clip did not arrive. Use Request video to pull it from the SD card.

For a Collision or SOS, Roudiy automatically requests road-camera video from 3 minutes before to 3 minutes after the event and locks it.

The Coaching page lists drivers with coachable events that are not in an open session. Start session collects their coachable events (up to 50); you are the coach, and the session is due in 14 days. For each event you choose Coached or Dismiss, then complete the session. If a session goes overdue, the coach gets one reminder. Nothing is sent to the driver; you hold the conversation yourself.

Driver score 50–100 over the last 4 weeks, events per 1,000 miles.

  1. Every Monday, in your company time zone, Roudiy looks at the last 28 days.
  2. For each event type it divides the counted events by miles driven, times 1,000.
  3. It multiplies each rate by the type’s weight and subtracts the total from 100.
  4. The score never goes below 50 or above 100.

Example: Maria Lopez drove 2,000 miles with 2 harsh-braking events. That is 1 per 1,000 miles × 4 = 4, so her score is 96. Drivers under 100 miles show N/A — under 100 mi. Bands: Excellent 90–100, Good 80–89, Fair under 80.
